My six years on Medium have seen several big Medium changes. None of these changes affected me that much.
But the recent change is changing my Medium strategy.
The Change
My Medium feed was not that dependable. Some of my followers were occasionally on the feed. Some were never on my feed. To reach these writers, I had to somehow remember that I hadn’t seen their work, then use the search function to see what he/she has written lately. Unfortunately, my memory with new follows is not that great. So, there were followed writers I have not read for a year or more — even if they were still active on Medium.
The new change puts a short following list in the lower left corner. This list changes out to reflect my follows who have recently posted. When I open Medium, I check this list to see if there is a followed writer who I have not read for a while. If so, I quickly check to see what he/she has written.
This list has become my first “go to” on Medium. I like it!
My Education & Entertainment Follows
There are writers who I like reading for their education and entertainment value. They have been a great place for me to pass time. Their works have kept me in Medium for my main mission has failed.
I suspect most of these writers are not reading my works. And I’m OK with that.
My Political Follows
My education/entertainment follows are a side benefit. I have an ulterior motive for being on Medium.
I am an inventor of an alternative democracy: Tiered Democratic Governance (TDG). In brief, this democracy has no political parties. It will elect representatives who have a consultative approach to solving problems. If you are interested in this new way, here are three ways to learn about it:
The TDG in 318 Words
The TDG in 4,512 Words
The TDG in 57,334 Words
To promote this democracy, I do follow amateur political writers on Medium. I will read, clap, and comment in a hopefully appropriate way to lead them to consider this new democracy.
I find it interesting that many of these writers instinctually understand that the current system is broken, yet they cannot contemplate replacing that system. Sort of like keeping your great grandfather’s Ford Model A going because he said it was the best car ever and there is nothing that can replace it.
If there is such a thing as a Deep State, it should be overjoyed that today’s political thinkers are not thinking in the way I have been suggesting. My forays into Medium and other internet forums suggest how deeply we have been inculcated that western democracy is the best possible form of governance humanity can ever invent, especially the American version even though it is obviously failing us so badly. So we will cling to our current system just because it is a Ford Model A. Strange psychology, is it not?
My New Medium Strategy
I will keep my educational & entertainment follows.
For my amateur political follows, if I see you reading, clapping, or commenting on my TDG works, I will keep you on my follow list. However, having you as a lukewarm TDG fan is not my objective. I want to turn you into a TDG worker. This volunteer job will take about 10 hours a month, which is much less time than you will spend on social media this month. This TDG job will move the world much more forward than your political writing and reading.
If you are a new follow of mine, I will give you a few months. I will try to engage you with the TDG. If I see you are not reading, clapping, or commenting on my TDG works, I will cull you from my feed. Nothing personal, but this will allow me to spend my limited time and energy on other new prospects.
Either you are interested in a new democracy or you are not. All I can do is present the idea to you.
For those of you who believe you can convert a MAGAt to a better political position or bend the will of the Democratic Party, I wish you luck. You will need that luck. My six years of watching Medium say this kind of writing does not produce results.
