The Luke & Martin Show

Last fall, Saving the World Together found me and my alternative democracy, the TDG. They facilitated a 50-minute podcast where I talked about my out-of-the-box ideas. After 26 years of development and promotion, this was the TDG’s first serious media interview.

I have returned to the website to listen to other speakers. At first, I was listing clips to Season 2, where my podcast resided. But one day, I clicked on Season 1. That was a nice surprise.

Luke Macmichael is the prime force behind Saving the World Together. From what I can gather, he set up the website for people who have interesting perspectives on the world, but don’t have much media attention. I sure fit that bill.

Along the way, Luke found Martin Rezny. Martin can articulate well on so many world and life issues. Yet Martin has a humble demeanor about him. He is someone that many people would be comfortable learning from.

Luke also has his own understanding of the issues. He knows how to frame dialogue that brings the best out of him and Martin. A Martin monologue would not work so well.

The link below is a compilation of Season 1 of “Saving the World Together.” It runs for several hours.

I generally do not enjoy the podcast format. Unlike music, podcasting does not allow me to multitask. I have to put full attention to the podcast, but the podcast does not move fast enough for me. So it feels like I am underutilizing myself when I am “forced” to listen.

I won’t say that Luke and Martin have solved my challenges with podcasts. But their Season 1 compilation provides a different opportunity for podcast listening: I can click on the link and comfortably put this long podcast in the background.

Luke and Martin have a unique dialogue. On the surface, they are two fellows discussing “things of the world.” But when I listen more carefully, I hear a lot of respect. There is a great framing of questions and answering of questions. Lots of new ideas. Lots of curiosity of each other’s perspectives. This all leads to a convivial dialogue. A dialogue that I would have loved to be part of.

Here’s why this podcast works in the background. The tone of the dialogue is wonderful — almost musical. We all should learn how to banter like Luke and Martin, especially for the social issues that confound us today. When this podcast is in the background, our subconscious will be absorbing this collaborative tone. We don’t have to digest the words to digest the feeling.

These days, my background noise is my local “golden oldie” station. I get a nice feeling when I hear all the popular songs of my younger days. But I don’t think I’m becoming a better person going down memory lane. Passive listening with Luke and Martin can move us to a higher level.

And when Luke/Martin come to a topic that interests us, by all means, we can move from passive listening to active listening. You will appreciate their insights. They talk about many things.

In essence, Luke and Martin are modelling how we should work together. Episode 1 of “Saving the World Together” can teach us directly. Or it can teach subliminally. We just need to turn it on — and let whatever magic happen that is supposed to happen.
